reproduction book『Toyo Seika Company Information』
We have reproduced a booklet that allows you to experience the charm of printed materials from the Meiji and Taisho periods.
This book is a reproduction of the company guide for "Toyo Seika."
In 1900, a Western-style confectionery manufacturing company was established in Gotenyama, Shinagawa, by a joint venture between long-established confectionery businesses in the Tokyo and Yokohama areas. They purchased equipment from England and invited craftsmen to make biscuits.
The authentic buttery biscuits were not well received by Japanese people at the time, who were not familiar with dairy products or edible oils and fats, and they had a lot of trouble selling them...
However, during the Russo-Japanese War and the Antarctic expedition in 1912,
some of the biscuits, such as the hardtack and biscuit drops, which are also listed in this catalog, were found to be useful as portable foods, and Western-style confectionery gradually became more popular in Japan.
With this reproduction, you can enjoy the sweets and package designs of a century ago, the way products were displayed, the layout and design of printed materials, and the use of colors.
